A wealthy independant state during the middle ages famous for its art and architecture. Thanks to a period of decline the medieval buidlings where not replaced with more modern structures during the 19th century. A great place to explore with the the Piazza del Campo, the Torre del Mangia and the Cathedral of Siena (Italian: Duomo di Siena) as some of the highlights. The historic town centre is on the Unesco World Heritage list.
